Everything you always wanted to know about episiotomy...

and they'll never tell you in antenatal classes

Dechainees.com needs you on a great project. Please send us photographs of freshly cut and really bad looking episiotomies : the ones that have not yet healed or got infected, or anything that will show the disastrous effects of this sexual mutilation.

We will do a video for distribution on Youtube, Dailymotion and Dechainees.com Our aim is to show these rude pictures in contrast with casual discourse on this topic. We want French health care professionals to understand that the target of 30% episiotomies is far too large given that the only medical indications are "short perineum" and acute foetal suffering. The WHO says that 10% would be reasonable statistics.

In 2003 we had 47% episiotomies in France (versus approx. 6% in Sweden), that is 68% for primiparous (first birth) and 31% for multiparous. We know nothing abour current figures. With 30% episiotomies, following the same ratio, it would mean that 42% women have their sex butchered for the birth of their first child. This is unacceptable !

Women, say no to episiotomy when it is not justified ! It is a detrimental surgical act.

Today, even though it is no longer systematic, it is still routinely performed: 1 epiosiotomy every other minute in France ! Are you doubting this ? Look at the maths: 816 500 births in 2007, less 20% caesareans, that is 653 200 vaginal births. This yields 307 004 episiotomies at the rate of 47%. In other words, 841 cuts per day or 35 per hour. If we had 10% episiotomies as suggested by WH0, 254 748 sexes of French women would have been spared from this barbarism !

We need to act !

Do not wait until professionals realize the importance of this point. You are the first one concerned. Say NO and show what never ought to be shown ! Expose you mutilated sex as an act of militancy. Preferably pictures showing that it is indeed your sex, not a common wound as it might appear on a too close framing.

Beware, this is impressive ! This picture will come first in the film.

Protect your sex, the sex of your friends, the sex of your daughters. Help us to eradicate the myth of a "little cut that does no harm", with "no negative effect on your sexuality" (except the problems you might create because of your obsession with this "tiny scar"). Let others know that, contrary to the story they will hear to get prepared to admit this act, it is not a little cut and it can become Hell for some women.

This will indeed be anonymous. There will be a warning on the video to avoid its viewing by children. (Youtube allows for parental filtering.)
